Some visualisations of Bandung water quality data

Here I learn some more type visualizations to understand groundwater behavior based on groundwater quality data set. I have 142 data points of water quality data measured in 2015. The dataset can be downloaded from our OSF repository. Currently we are on our way in writing a paper out of the data set based on multivariate analysis. I use free apps to produce all plots. I will add the plots as I move along in the analysis.

Beban ganda (double burden) regulasi air tanah di Indonesia

Saat ini saya sedang mengusulkan kenaikan jabatan dari Lektor ke Lektor Kepala. Beberapa waktu lalu saya menerima informasi bahwa dokumen usulan saya memiliki kekurangan makalah yang dimuat dalam jurnal nasional terakreditasi.

Kebetulan saya bersama beberapa rekan pernah diminta melakukan telaah akademik mengenai perda pengelolaan air (khususnya air tanah), kemudian jadilah makalah berikut ini (lihat citation info di bawah).

Paper sedang dalam proses peer-review pada Jurnal Ilmu Sosial dan Humaniora dan kami unggah sebagai Preprint di Zenodo (tautan ada di bawah).

Kami memberi judul “double burden” karena memang regulasi yang mengatur pengelolaan air (dan air tanah) terganggu oleh dua hal:

  1. Pembatalan UU No. 7 Tahun 2004 tentang Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Air oleh Mahkamah Institusi
  2. Perubahan kewenangan pemerintah daerah dalam UU No. 23 Tahun 2014.

Belum sempat UU yang baru terbit, ada UU berikutnya yang menarik kembali kewenangan pengelolaan air dari kabupaten/kota ke provinsi (lihat gambar di bawah ini).

hydrogeology vs groundwater

The following chart is my starting point to describe how hydrogeological exploration differs from groundwater exploration. In this case, groundwater is just a component in hydrogeology. Therefore by exploring groundwater means you will be only looking at the groundwater itself, eg: where its location, how it moves and where does it flow. Whereas by exploring hydrogeology suggests you will look beyond the water. There are other aspects directly or indirectly connected to the moving groundwater in the aquifer. You may also look at the processes that are driven by the groundwater setting.

A fresh start

I wrote this post back on my blog which has been moved to the new blog for almost a year. The reason was, the analytical tools from native WordPress are much more complete than the ones in my new blog. Therefore I need to reorganize both blogs. This old blog will contains materials related to my research interests, while the new blog covers more on open science and research method.

Some future topics on this blog:

  1. shared role on managing groundwater: a serial of posts following our work to assist Bandung City govt in revising the old groundwater regulation.
  2. the use of multivariate analysis to classify water quality: frankly this one was old topics, but the upcoming updates will tell a story based on my papers using R to implement sample classifications. This research is funded by ITB Research Grant 2016.
  3. the open source platform for groundwater management dashboard: this activity is funded by Directorate of Higher Education, Ministry of Research Tech and Higher Education.
